Mustache Transplant

Overview

A mustache transplant uses donor follicles — usually from the scalp — to rebuild a thin, scarred, or uneven upper-lip line. It is a smaller cousin of beard work, not a shortcut to a fashion shape from a photograph. The surgeon checks how the lip moves when you speak and smile, how coarse the donor hair is, and whether shaving the area for access is acceptable. Grafts that look dense on day one still shed before they settle. Meridia already lists beard transplantation separately because the cheek and jaw need a different density map. We will not promise a designer mustache width or a hidden scar from a remote selfie.

Who it may be suitable for

• Adults with stable patchy growth, a cleft or trauma scar, or a thin mustache who can accept a shaved upper lip during healing
• Patients whose donor hair calibre is close enough to facial hair that a transplanted look will not stay obviously scalp-like

Techniques

• FUE or implanter-pen placement into the upper lip
• Combined beard-and-mustache mapping when both zones need work
