Mini Gastric Bypass
A single-join gastric bypass that reduces stomach volume and reroutes food. It is not a gentler sleeve and it is not chosen from a weight target alone.
Overview
A mini or one-anastomosis gastric bypass creates a narrow stomach pouch and one join to the small bowel. It usually produces more malabsorption than a sleeve and a different reflux and ulcer profile than a Roux-en-Y bypass. That is why “mini” does not mean simpler or safer for every body. The bariatric team looks at BMI, diabetes, reflux, smoking, and whether a sleeve or a standard bypass would be kinder. Lifelong vitamins, pregnancy planning, and alcohol advice still apply. Meridia will not quote an expected kilogram number or call this a holiday operation.
Who it may be suitable for
- Adults who meet bariatric criteria after medical and dietetic review
- Patients who can commit to supplements, follow-up blood tests, and a changed way of eating
Techniques
- Laparoscopic one-anastomosis gastric bypass
- Alternative sleeve or Roux-en-Y if reflux or anatomy makes those safer
Procedure timeline
01
Work-up
Blood tests, endoscopy if indicated, and a dietetic review come before a date.
02
Surgery
Usually one laparoscopic session with a hospital stay the team sets.
03
Diet stages
Liquids to solids follow a protocol. Skipping stages is how complications start.
Recovery
- Dumping, reflux, or anastomotic problems can appear and need urgent contact, not a forum post
- Hair shedding and vitamin gaps are known later effects if supplements are skipped
Expected process
- 1. Share photos, medical history, and travel constraints with a coordinator
- 2. A clinician reviews suitability before any itinerary is confirmed
- 3. Transfers, hotel nights, and appointments are arranged if you choose a coordinated package
Is this treatment right for me?
This is not a medical diagnosis. Final suitability requires professional evaluation.

Questions
Not as a rule. Each operation has a different risk set. Reflux, ulcers, and nutrition are discussed case by case.
Revision bariatric surgery is a separate, higher-risk plan. It is not booked from a wish to lose “the last kilos”.
